Samsung may be at their final steps in completing a 64 Bit processor for future smartphones

According to a reports by a Korean media outlet, Samsung is into the close to completion of a 64-bit mobile processor intended for use in its own smartphones. The report further speculates that the chip will be first used in the company’s next flagship.

The chip will also be used for products beyond smartphones, such as tablets. It wouldn’t be at all surprising if Samsung were to use the 64-bit chip in its upcoming line-up of Chromebooks destined for 2014.

Shortly after the unveil of the iPhone 5s, Samsung stated that it’s working on a 64-bit CPU, which will find its place in 2014 flagshps. Right now, though, they are still in the sampling stage.

Smartphones are quick approaching the 4GB RAM barrier, at which point 64-bit CPUs become a necessity. Rumors are that Android 4.4 KitKat is slated to bring 64-bit support. There is also a probability Samsung unveils a flagship with 4GB of RAM next year, since the Note 3 already has 3GB.(GSMArena)

AdDuplex Nokia controls 90 of Windows Phone market

Nokia – or rather Microsoft – now owns 90% of the Windows Phone market. The numbers are from the latest AdDuplex report and reveal other interesting facts of the WP landscape.

That the Nokia Lumia 520 accounts for over a quarter of all Windows Phone devices should come as no surprise. That Windows Phone 7 devices account for another quarter, however, is surprising.

We keep careful track of outdated Android versions, but its worth keeping in mind that WP7 devices will never see Windows Phone 8. Is WP7 the Gingerbread of Windows Phone?

Anyway, back to the Lumia 520. If you combine its share with that of the 521 – which is just a T-Mobile branded 520 – the market share jumps to nearly 30%. Also, this is the only phone with a double digit percentage when it comes to market share.

Second and third are the high-end Lumia 920 and the other low-end Lumia, the 620, both with under 9%. Other than the 920, there are virtually no high-end devices with an appreciable market share – neither the Lumia 1020 that has been out for a while, nor the 925 and 928 have managed to make a significant impact. The large-screened Nokia Lumia 625 has carved out a 2.9% share, though.

Its worth pointing out one more time that the above chart shows the worldwide marker share of all Windows Phone devices. Theres just no HTC, Samsung or other maker that has a single phone with appreciable market share.

HTC does have 7% of the market, but Samsung and Huawei cant even break 2%.

In the US, the three major carriers have a WP dog in the game – Lumia 521 for T-Mobile is on top, followed by Verizons Lumia 822 and the AT&Ts Lumia 920 complete the Top 3.

In the UK, the 520 leads by a wide margin and oddly, it is followed by the old Lumia 800. HTC has third place with the 8S.

In India, the Nokia Lumia 520 has over 40% of the market followed by its low-end compatriots the Lumia 720 and 620. The 625 is at 7%, the affordable large-screen phone is meant to compete with cheap local brands.

From these numbers two things are clear – Microsoft practically owns its own market and it badly needs a high-end phone to achieve any sort of success.

Revenge porn website operator charged with email hacking

A notorious "revenge porn" website operator and another California man have been charged with stealing nude photos from hundreds of hacked email accounts and posting the images online.

Hunter Moore, 27, who has been dubbed by some media outlets as "the most hated man on the Internet," was arrested Thursday at his home in Woodland. FBI agents also arrested Charles Evens, 25, of the Studio City area of Los Angeles.

Evens pleaded not guilty in a Los Angeles court while Moore appeared in court in Sacramento but didnt enter a plea, U.S. attorneys spokesman Thom Mrozek said.

Both remained jailed.

A 15-count federal indictment issued this week in Los Angeles charges the men with conspiracy, computer hacking, aggravated identity theft, and aiding and abetting. They could face up to five years in federal prison if convicted.

From 2010 to 2012, Moore ran a website called isanyoneup.com that posted nude and explicit photos, including some submitted to the site by former lovers and spouses without the permission of the people in them. Alongside the photos, Moore included the name and other details of the people depicted.

The photos included an "American Idol" finalist, the daughter of a major Republican donor, and a woman in a wheelchair, according to a 2012 article on Moore in Rolling Stone magazine.

According to the indictment, Evens was paid for providing Moore with nude photos that he obtained by hacking or using other means to accessing hundreds of email accounts.

In an email to Moore, Evens said what he was doing was illegal, and in other emails, Moore offered to pay Evens $200 a week and asked him to use an anonymous PayPal account to avoid detection of the scheme, according to the indictment. Evens was paid as much as $900 at one time, prosecutors contend.

Moore told BBC that he made as much as $20,000 a month in advertising revenue. He ignored cease-and-desist orders and scoffed at challenges to the ethics of his site, although in 2012 he finally sold the website to an anti-cyberbullying organization, saying his notoriety had resulted in people sending him a flood of child pornography and other images.

But he defended the site as well, even though he acknowledged in the 2012 BBC interview that posting the photos could "definitely affect someones livelihood."

"I just monetize peoples mistakes that they made, and its kind of a shady business. But if it wasnt me, somebody else was going to do it," he said.

In a 2012 interview on CNNs "Dr. Drew" show, a woman who called in to the show chastised Moore for refusing requests to remove naked selfies of her daughter and alleged they came from a hacked account.

"Im sure she sent the pictures to a million different guys and just ended up on my site just like everybody else," Moore said, although he added that he didnt want to hurt her daughter.

"I am sorry that your daughter was cyber-raped. But, I mean, now shes educated on technology," he added.

In fact, Nokia that used to dominate phone market in Nigeria, has lost huge market share and have been replaced by tecno phones in the hands of low and middle class income earners.

Of course TECNO phones have always been though of as a silly China phone, but with the series of smartphones been released by this company e.g TECNO N3, D5 etc, one will say that the game is on especially with the new TECNO N7.

Have been asked by many people if I had seen the new and latest Tecno N7 smartphone developed by Tecno Mobile Industries, and I have always replied that I have not only seen but am presently using one.

In case you dont know, Tecno N7 is the latest and highest range smartphone made by Tecno Mobile and below are the specs and features of the device including a video here.

Operating System:                Android Ice Cream Sandwich 4.0.4

NOTE: 4GB ROM comes with 512mb RAM but the 2GB ROM comes with 750mb RAM

Price: Price is between 29 - 30k in Naira. Slot a phone store located at Ikeja, computer village, sells for N30, 000, while some other stores sells for N31, 000. However I bought mine at another Tecno shop for N29, 000

It comes pre-installed with Whatsapp, Google+, Bible, Quran, Facebook, Twitter, Asphalt 6, Angry Birds etc. and I have installed AVG anti virus, Temple Run 2, Skype, Viber etc on it.
Am currently using this device and I can say that the price is okay. I have also included images so that u can see it for yourself.

This device is okay but not without a down side.
The down side is in the screen resolution and RAM space. I believe that TECNO should have increased the RAM to 1.0GB instead of its 512mb and also, the screen resolution should have been around 1200 x 1200 due to screen size.
RAM issue is noticeable when a lot of apps are running in the background, and you try playing a game like Asphalt 6, it could hang for a while and get back into play. However, when some apps are stopped, game play is seamless and enjoyable.
This device is rootable. In fact Wondershare Mobile Go sees this device as HTC TECNO.

Obviously, a higher version of TECNO N7 will show up soon enough and I would like to trade in this N7 for that.
I have included images and a video link here for you just in case you had like to see what this device actually looks like.

Obviously, the game is on for smartphone makers. If TECNO can come up with something as good as this, then we are sure that even better devices and tablet are in the works and would be released soon.

Pros:
  • Solid build
  • Fairly good camera
  • Strong and long lasting battery
Cons:
  • Low RAM
  • Low screen resolution
  • Possibility of operating system upgrades are minute

Samsung Exynos 5 OCTA will use all 8 cores for the Galaxy S5

When MediaTek introduced the worlds first true octa-core chip in July, that put pressure on Korean OEM Samsung. After all, the Samsung Exynos 5 Octa can only use one set of four cores at a time while the MT8135 can use all eight cores at a time. But thanks to the Heterogeneous Multi-Processing solution, the Samsung chip will also be able to use all eight cores at once, starting in the fourth quarter.

The setup allows big heavy duty tasks to run on the "big" A15 cores and small housekeeping chores can run on the "LITTLE" A7 cores without having to switch back and forth as currently required. Sammys presser points out that being able to access all eight cores at once will improve 3D gaming, Augmented Reality, and advanced web browsing.

"Its usually assumed that the big CPU will do all the performance-critical work, however, power-efficient little cores can handle many significant workloads all on their own, so the workload is balanced within the system. big.LITTLE processing is designed to deliver the right combination of processors for a specific job. An eight-core processor with HMP is the truest form of the big.LITTLE technology with limitless benefits to the users of high-performance, low-power mobile products."-Taehoon Kim, vice president, System LSI marketing, Samsung Electronics

Samsung didnt say that we would see these chips in any current smartphone model, but it is a good bet that the Samsung Galaxy S5 will implement the silicon in at least some regions.

Apple EarPod Review

All new iPhone 5 comes with the new EarPods which Apple claims spent 3 years in R&D. It is indeed a radical design, somewhat common sensical, if you ask me, that the speaker driver outlets ought to face towards the ear canal instead of against the ear wall. I am sure many some earphone manufacturers would reference the EarPod, working its way around the patent to avoid any infringement.

The EarPod rests comfortably in my ears and feels next to nothing. There is no rubber lining to grip the EarPods to the ear, so I dont think it will work well for active activities. The EarPods feel loose and there is a tendency to try to adjust the position in hoping for an optimal listening fit. When I try to push the EarPods further into my ear canals, I can get quite a good balance of bass and clear treble.  If I let it rest in my ears, the bass is still audible but does not give the deep feel-good punch. Plus the fact that its not in-ear, the bass frequency will definitely be lost among the ambient noise. The treble sound clear though, and definitely better sounding than the predecessors.

Apple claims that the EarPods could match earphones costing hundreds of dollars. Judge for yourself: look for a friend with an iPhone 5 and borrow for a test drive. My take is: you probably will like the sound of it at first go. But once you do a side-by-side comparison with any third party earphones, you will favour the latter.

I like how Apple includes the EarPod case with the iPhone 5 to allow better storage. Chances are, they will remain there throughout your iPhone ownership. Pity the fact that Apple spent 3 years to design a nice pair of earphones only to be bundled with iPhone 5 rather than to be sold separately as premium accessory. Perhaps they knew it wasnt that good enough as a standalone product. Perhaps they needed a unique feature to talk about for the iPhone 5 launch.

Samsung Galaxy Note 3 review

Review:

Samsung has somehow managed to increase the size of its flagship phone-tablet, or phablet, the Galaxy Note, with every annual iteration. Its hard to believe that the South Korean gadget maker could maintain this growth with each generation, especially considering the smartphones already enormous size. But it does, and as a result, we find ourselves yet again faced with breaking away from our modestly sized smartphone to review a large phablet – in this case the Galaxy Note 3, which like all phablets requires more than one hand to use.
Samsung Galaxy Note 3 overall
The Galaxy Note 3 held few specification surprises when Samsung launched it at IFA last month, thanks to the months of leaks ahead of its unveiling. It follows the success of the Galaxy Note 2, which managed to notch an impressive three million sales worldwide in just over a month after its release almost a year ago. It brings a few improvements, being lighter and thinner than its predecessor while it has an even larger 5.7in display.

Since the launch of the Note 3, Samsung has admitted to region locking the Note 3, so if you travel internationally (outside of Europe) and insert a local SIM card when in that country, you wont be able to use the local network - you will only be able to roam from the SIM card from your country of origin. Apparently, the Note 3 will lose all mobile connectivity with the exception of emergency calls if you try to use a local SIM.

Samsung said the decision to put a region SIM lock on the Note 3 is "to provide customers with the optimal mobile experience in each region including customer care services", though we we think its more likely that the firm is looking to crack down on cheap imports.

Design and build

The one thing that Samsung probably should have changed when upgrading the Galaxy Note and releasing its third model was the material used. But, like the Galaxy Note 2, the device is still made of a cheap-feeling plastic material and, considering its price of £620, we were disappointed that Samsung didnt learn from its earlier mistake.
Samsung Galaxy Note 3 back
This time Samsung added a faux leather backplate to the Galaxy Note 3, which makes the £600-plus phablet look not only like a budget device but ugly as well. But Samsung claims that this can be changed by buying a different backplate, which is sold separately.

One good thing about the plastic casing is that it makes the device really light and thin, weighing just 168g and measuring only 8.3mm thick, 15g lighter and 1.1mm thinner than the Galaxy Note 2s 9.4mm and 183g. On the top of the deivce is a headphone jack, on the left-hand side is the volume control and on the right is the power switch. Below the bottom of the screen is a physical Home button that sits between Back and Options buttons that work via haptic technology.
Samsung Galaxy Note 3 top
Ergonomically, the Galaxy Note 3 just about fits in the hand, and considering its ridiculously large size it doesnt feel so big that use is restricted. People with larger hands will have an advantage when using the device, though, because theyll be able to reach more areas of the screen with their thumbs if using one hand, without having to stretch as far. Those with smaller hands will need to use both to operate the Galaxy Note 3.
Samsung Galaxy Note 3 side view
As with the Galaxy Note 2, we still felt a bit silly holding the phone up to our head to chat, as it looks like youre talking into a tablet.
To help operation, Samsung has maintained the presence of an S Pen stylus, which is housed in the device on the right-hand side. The stylus has the same build as the phone, feeling cheap and plastic, but it is light and easy to hold.
Samsung has made the Galaxy Note 3 available in black, white and pink.

Display
The Galaxy Note 3s 5.7in Super AMOLED display has seen a minor size increase of 0.2in, and like the Galaxy Note 2 its great for watching high-resolution videos. In this case, bigger is better. Its size is great for jotting down quick notes in a meeting, for example, as you dont feel restricted. However, theres one thing we find really irritating about it, and thats how Samsung hasnt taken full advantage of the screens real estate.

For some reason text appears huge on the Galaxy Note 3s screen, even when set to the smallest font size. This not only means that youll have to scroll up and down more often, but we think it makes it appear less premium and more childish looking.
Samsung Galaxy Note 3 display
Another aspect that frustrated us was how only four apps appear in a row on the home screen despite the Galaxy Note 3s full HD 1080x1920 resolution. They are be spaced too far apart and you will find yourself having to tap on the apps page to then scroll through those that dont fit on the home screen.

On the other hand, pixels are almost invisible when inspecting the display close up. This means watching movies on the Galaxy Note 2 is a delight, as they appear brilliantly crisp, and colour representation is excellent. The display is very bright and clear, and watching videos in full HD is very enjoyable. The 16:9 aspect ratio ensures that widescreen films are also great to watch.

Unlike Sonys recent flagship 5in smartphone, the Xperia Z1, viewing angles on the Galaxy Note 3 are very wide, which we liked.
It seems that Samsung has also fixed the issue seen on the Galaxy Note 2 where text occasionally appeared blurred when in the lock screen, as we encountered no such problem with the Galaxy Note 3.

Camera
The Galaxy Note 3s 13MP camera worked the same way as the camera on the Galaxy S4, only with a much bigger screen that makes taking photos a more pleasurable experience. Shots are vibrant, though nowhere near as vibrant as on the Nokia Lumia 1020, but they are detailed and are taken instantly when the shutter button is pressed. Everything works quickly on the Galaxy Note 3.
Samsung Galaxy Note 3 camera
A downside to the Galaxy Note 3s camera is the lack of a physical shutter button, meaning that you have to press the on-screen camera icon to take a photo. However, with the Galaxy Note 3 being as big as it is, it probably would be too difficult to hold the device and press a physical shutter button anyway.

Despite this, we were pleased to see that the Galaxy Note 3 has a decent 2MP front-facing camera for video chat purposes, as many smartphones on the market have lower-quality VGA cameras on the front.
In the daytime, all camera features worked smoothly, were easy to use and generally offered brilliant results. Heres a shot of V3s Mike looking pleased with himself while hard at work in the office.
Samsung Galaxy Note 3 camera image
There is also a good choice of camera shooting modes on the device, such as Best Photos, which takes multiple photos in a burst and allows you to select the best one. There are some strange ones too, such as Golf Swing, which detects when a golf club is being swung, and once you take a picture it lets you play it back in slow motion. Very niche indeed.

One particular favourite, however, is Beauty Face, which detects your face in a shot and air brushes it so you look like youve the skin of a babys bottom.
Samsung Galaxy Note 3 beauty selfie
All in all the camera fared well, taking some great quality shots, but it failed to blow us away.

Next: S Pen and operating system

Sony Starts Inviting Users To PlayStation Now Beta Test

The

The Sony demo of PS Now at CES in Jan. 2014.

Sony shook things up a few weeks ago at CES when it announced the impending launch of PlayStation Now, a cloud-based service that could give PS4 owners access to previous-generation games that won’t currently work on the new console and Sony says will eventually let users play PlayStation games without any console at all. This week, the company began sending out the first round of invites to users who registered to become beta testers for PS Now.

Polygon confirmed the news with Sony last night, though the company would not say how many people were part of this first round of invitees.

To take advantage of the invite, the user needs a PS3 and broadband connection with a minimum downstream speed of 5Mbps, which is in line with what Sony told Consumerist at CES.

When we got our hands on the PS Now demo at CES, it didn’t strike us as terribly different from playing a game on the console. The graphics were not quite as sharp, and it seemed slightly sluggish in a handful of spots. However, we were playing The Last of Us, which is visually a bit muddy in parts and has never been the smoothest, hitch-free performer on our home consoles.

If anyone among the beta-testers wants to share their hands-on experiences with Consumerist, let us know at tips@consumerist.com. We will not out your identity to Sony or anyone else.

Apple iPhone 3GS review

http://unleashthephones.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/10/iphone-3gs.jpgSee Video

The good: The iPhone 3GS finally adds common cell phone features like multimedia messaging, video recording, and voice dialing. It runs faster; its promised battery life is longer; and the multimedia quality continues to shine.

The bad: The iPhone 3GS call quality shows no improvements and the 3G signal reception remains uneven. We still dont get Flash Lite, USB transfer and storage, or multitasking.

The bottom line: The iPhone 3GS doesnt make the same grand leap that the iPhone 3G made from the first-generation model, but the latest Apple handset is still a compelling upgrade for some users. The iPhone 3GS is faster and we appreciate the new features and extended battery life, but call quality and 3G reception still need improvement.

Review:

Three years after the first rumors of an Apple cell phone began to make the rounds, the iPhone continues to garner huge buzz, long lines, and a growing share of the cell phone market. And as we approach the second anniversary of the first models frenzied launch day, Apple drops the newest model in our laps. The iPhone 3GS, which will hit stores June 19, promises faster processing and network speeds, extended battery life, more memory, and additional features. Its enough to get our attention, but not enough to get us completely excited.

In many ways, the iPhone 3GS delivers on its promises. The battery, which could sometimes deplete in less than a day on the iPhone 3G, lasted longer in our preliminary tests, and the phones software ran noticeably faster. Yet, we still have some concerns. A faster AT&T 3G network isnt going to happen overnight, and some features, like tethering and multimedia messaging, arent scheduled until later in summer 2009. We also struggled to see any change in call quality, which, as any iPhone owner can tell you, remains far from perfect.
So should you buy it? That will depend on how much youll have to pay for the privilege.

If you dont own an iPhone yet, and youve been waiting for the right model, now is the time to go for it. The same goes for iPhone Classic owners who never made the jump to the iPhone 3G. But, if youre a current iPhone 3G owner, the answer isnt so clear. If youre eligible to upgrade at the cheapest prices ($199 for the 16GB model and $299 for the 32GB model), we suggest doing so, as long as you dont mind the required two-year contract. If you own an iPhone 3G, but are not yet eligible for the upgrade, we recommend upgrading to the new iPhone OS 3.0 operating system, and then waiting. As much as the iPhone 3GS brings, its not worth the extra $200 that the 16GB and 32GB models cost.

iPod Touch OS 3.0 media featuresPlay CNET Video

Design and interface
The iPhone 3GS looks exactly like the previous model. It shares the shape and the same external controls, but the iPhone 3GS is unique in a handful of ways. You can get both memory sizes in white or black, and the iPhone 3GS display sports a fingerprint-resistant oleophobic coating that is supposed to attract fewer fingerprints and smudges. The new model shares the same dimensions as its predecessor, but its slightly heavier (4.76 ounces versus 4.7 ounces), a virtually unnoticeable difference.

The iPhone 3GS has the same external design as the iPhone 3G.
The menu interface is also the same, but in the past year, as weve added apps to the Home screen, something new has begun to bother us. As intuitive and simple as the interface is, it becomes unwieldy after you get above four menu pages. Swiping through multiple pages is tedious; and its rather painful to drag applications from page to page if youre an organizational freak. We hate that theres no way to categorize related apps into folders, such as one for news, another for social networking, and so on. Not only would this cut down on menu pages, but youd also be able to find your app faster. And while were at it, how about letting us delete some of the native apps we never use?

Features

Since the iPhone 3GS inherits many of the features from the previous model, well concentrate on whats different on this device. If you need a refresher on such elements as the clock, YouTube, weather, iPod player, calculator, and e-mail, please see our iPhone 3G review. Well start off with the new features that only the iPhone 3GS will offer.

Camera

Until now, the iPhones camera has been good, but far from great, with decent photo quality, but no editing features. Apple didnt include options such as white balance, a digital zoom, or a self-timer that come standard on many basic VGA camera phones. The minimalist shooter bothered us so much that we began to worry if Apple was leading a new trend of "dumbing down" cell phone cameras.

The iPhone 3GS camera still lacks a flash.
The iPhone 3GS puts some of those fears to rest. Apple boosted the cameras resolution to 3 megapixels and added a new "Tap to Focus" feature. As you point the lens toward your subject, a small box appears on the center of the display. Tapping that square focuses the camera automatically on that point and adjusts the white balance, color, contrast, and exposure accordingly. If youd rather focus on the edge of your shot, just tap the display at your chosen point and the square moves with you. If you dont tap anywhere, the camera will focus the entire frame.
Tap to Focus performs well. For example, if we photographed a book cover sitting on a desk, we were able to get a clear reading on the books title. If we shifted the focus away from the book, the title became somewhat blurry. Alternatively, if we focused on the brightest part of an image, the entire picture would appear brighter. But if we focused on the darkest part of any image, the photo would darken accordingly. The iPhone still doesnt come with a flash, though, so dont expect miracles.

On the other hand, the new automatic macro setting didnt appear to make much of a difference. Close-up shots looked slightly better on the iPhone 3GS than they did on the iPhone 3G, but we couldnt tell when the macro focus was working and when it wasnt. As with the autofocus feature, the macro setting is a welcome addition, but wed prefer to have more control over it. In other words, the iPhone 3GS camera is smarter than those on the earlier iPhones, but the camera, rather than the user, still runs the show.

The iPhone 3GS indoor shots were just average.
On the whole, the iPhone 3GS photo quality looks better than the 3G cameras quality, but it depends on the shot. Outdoor shots and photos taken in natural light looked less blurry in our tests, with brighter colors. Photos taken during cloudy days were less likely to be blown out, and photos in low-light conditions looked brighter and had less of an orange tint. Indoor shots without natural light showed little change, however. The iPhones camera is not optimized for fluorescent light. For a full gallery of shots taken with the camera, see our iPhone 3GS camera slideshow.

Video recording

The iPhone 3GS is the first iPhone to offer video recording, another feature other phones have offered for years. Apple makes up for some lost time by offering an easy-to-use video-editing option right on the phone.

The video recorder has a simple interface and you can edit clips right on the display.
Controls for video shooting work just like the still cameras controls, and you can use the Tap to Focus feature here, as well. The quality is just VGA, but the camera shoots at 30 frames per second, so while colors look muted and some videos appear washed out, the iPhone 3GS did better at handling movement than most cell phone cameras. After youre done recording, you can send your clip in an e-mail or upload it directly to your YouTube account. We were able to upload to YouTube and send a video from our synced IMAP4 Exchange account, but when we tried to send a video from a synced Yahoo POP3 account, an error occurred. Were checking with Apple on the discrepancy and will report back.

Watch a video of the iPhone 3GS video quality.

The phones video-editing tool is utterly intuitive and fun to use. After loading a previously shot video, youll see it displayed frame by frame in a linear format along the top of the touch screen. Using your finger, you can slide the cursor to any point in the video and start playing from there. If you care to edit, just touch either end of the border that surrounds your video. When the border turns yellow, you can shorten the clip by dragging either end toward your desired cutoff point (the image on the display will conveniently change as you move along). Once youve made your edits, just hit the "Trim" control.

We liked the video-editing feature a lot, but its worth noting a couple of small complaints. First off, when you trim a clip, the edited version replaces your original video, rather than saves it as a new file. Also, you can trim only in a linear format--meaning you cant cut out something in the middle and stitch the remaining two ends of the video together.
We also like a new feature that allows you to quickly open a photo or video that you just shot. After taking your snap or video, a small thumbnail will appear on the bottom of the viewfinder next to the shutter control. Tapping that thumbnail takes you to the photo gallery page, from where you can view your work or send it on to a friend.

  Voice Control

Weve long berated Apple for not including voice dialing on previous iPhones, particularly in this age of hands-free driving laws. Overdue as it is, the new Voice Control feature goes far beyond just making calls. To activate it, hold down the home button until the Voice Control feature appears.

With the Voice Control feature, you can make calls and control the iPod player.
As with hundreds of other cell phones, Voice Control lets you make calls by speaking the contacts name or phone number into the receiver. After you say your command, youll get audio confirmation and the name or number will show on the display. If the iPhone makes a mistake, you can press an "undo" touch control at the bottom of the screen. The feature is speaker-independent, so you wont need to train it to recognize your voice; youll be ready to go the first time you turn on the phone.

In our tests, the voice dialing performed well. When using names, it understood us accurately most of the time. It made occasional mistakes--for example, it wanted to call "Siemens" instead of "Stephen"--but thats hardly unusual for a voice dialer. Voice Control performed better when using only numbers. We didnt have to speak loudly, except in noisy environments, but it was capable of filtering out most background noise.
If you call a contact with multiple numbers, but dont specify which number you prefer, it will prompt you with "home," "work," etc. If you ask for a name that has multiple listings in your phone book (we know multiple people named Tim, for instance), it will prompt you for your choice, while showing the options on the screen. Alternatively, you can call a contact using his or her companys name, but that company must be in the contacts electronic business card.

Voice Control also interacts with the iPhones iPod player and the iTunes Genius list. You can ask it to play a song by artist name and album, and you can request an entire playlist. Once music is playing, you can pause, skip to the next song, and go back to the previous track, using your voice. Say "shuffle" and the player skips to a random song. The feature was accurate most of the time, but it occasionally confused some artist names.
Unsure which song is playing? You can find out by asking, "What song is this?" Youll then get audio confirmation of the track name and artist. Like what youre hearing? Say, "Play more songs like this," and the player will use your iTunes Genius list to play a related song. In either case, the music will dim while you speak. Theyre nifty features, to be sure, and we cant think of another MP3 player or cell phone that offers such capability.

On the other hand, we cant imagine that many people would use it outside of a car. And the iPod Voice Control isnt perfect. It read Pinks name as "P N K" in our tests (Pink spells her name as "P!nk" on her album covers), and it twice tried to call "Annette" when we asked what song was playing. Also, were not sure how Gwen Stefani would feel about being related to Britney Spears in the Genius list, but there you have it.

Compass

Youll find the iPhone 3GS digital compass option directly on the Home screen; just tap to open. The attractive interface shows a large compass with your bearing and your latitude and longitude. Similar to any other compass, it continues to point true or magnetic north as you turn around. Reception was spotty inside, so youll need to stay clear of any interference. If it cant get a bearing, youll be advised to move away from the interference and re-establish the compass orientation by moving the iPhone in a figure-eight motion.

More Leaks Suggest That Nokias Android Smartphone Could Actually Make It To Market

Screen-Shot-2014-01-27-at-8.39.03-AM

Over the last few months, we have heard plenty of rumors regarding an Android powered smartphone manufactured by the Finnish phone maker Nokia. From rumors to image leaks, the handset has been dangled in front of our faces over and over, as if Microsoft was playing some sick game to taunt us with the likes of something we’ve always wanted, but may never see since they bought out Nokia’s hardware division. Still, image leaks and more rumors started to surface as we transitioned into the new year, and as of today the newest leaks and rumors are here to support the idea that Nokias Android powered handset could actually see the light of day. These newest leaks are regarding the supposed specs of the yet unannounced device, which actually gives us an idea of what to expect if the phone does get released.

These newest leaks and rumors that talk about the specs of the Nokia Normandy come out of a vietnamese website called thegiodidong.com, where the website apparently already has the normandy displayed and listed as an upcoming handset for purchase. The listing shows off some of it’s alleged specs, and it is listed as the “Normandy”, although @evleaks who has been mostly responsible for providing us with the first image leaks of the device, has also stated on his twitter account that the device might actually be called the Nokia X, making the Normandy a possible codename. According to thegiodidong.com, the Normandy will carry a 4 inch display that has a low resolution of 854 x 480. This isn’t surprising since we also heard rumors that the device would be aimed at emerging markets, which would eliminate pretty much any possibility that this would come with high end hardware due to the high nature of the cost of those parts. Besides the display, the website also lists that the phone will have 512MB of RAM and 4GB of storage space, with an expandable microSD card slot that allows for up to an extra 32GB of storage. The RAM might have been a problem, but the phone is also listed as coming pre-loaded with Androids latest version of the OS, Android KitKat, which Google has said will work on phones with lower memory.

Rounding out the specs are a 5MP rear camera and a 1GHz dual-core snapdragon 200 processor. So far, there is no way to legitimize the officiality of any information about the Normandy on the vietnamese website, but we could end up hearing something about it come the first day of MWC, when Nokia has scheduled a press event to be held, although we know nothing of the event as of this time. @evleaks has proven to be a trusted source over and over in the past, so the Normandy more than likely exists, what remains to be discovered is if these specs are indeed what to expect from the handset if it appears. Interestingly enough, when we hit the link to the source page, we get a “404 error” message, stating that the page does not exist. So it looks as though the listing might have been pulled. Which makes us wonder if any of the spec rumors were true. Perhaps someone was even a little too hasty with listing the device on the webpage. Time will tell.
